When and how is the upgrade being made?

The upgrade was made in March 2022, and all authors have been switched over to the new Touch UI.

Do I have to change/update any of my existing site(s), or do anything at all?

No, there’s nothing you need to do other than familiarize yourself with the new interface.

What are the most common mistakes and challenges?

  • Interface oddities; bugs likely appear when tabs/windows of the different interfaces (Touch and Classic) are open concurrently.

  • Mishandling of Panel Builders, particularly selecting Panels in areas of higher density (i.e. nested). Use the new parent tool to mitigate the issue (See opening portion of the  Panel Builder video)

  • Confusion how to navigate between pages when authoring a page. Users must switch to the “Preview” mode in order to use any link (internal or external).

Related to the above, having to use Preview mode in order to switch between tabs, accordions, or slides in order to edit their content.

  • On the page & asset administration side, learning the relocation of management tools and adapting to the new Views and Modes. Much of this comes from coping with the fact that right-click is no longer functional.

Is there additional training for Touch UI?

Yes. For new authors, there’s a fully guided online training at https://websense.stanford.edu/ (required for new users, optional for existing). This updated course necessitates access to a training sandbox to practice exercises in the new interface. To gain access to this sandbox, please make a request. Note the content is biased towards a new user, so it may be redundant for experienced authors and is not required for existing authors.

For existing authors, there's abbreviated content within the Touch Transition site including a video overview, quick reference, and component encyclopedia.

Can I switch back to the old "Classic" interface?

Yes, and this ability is outlined in the “Test it Out” section of this site. However, we strongly advise against this and should only be used for potential bug workarounds. Switching between UI modes generates it's own set of bugs, especially with multiple tabs open.

Can I opt out of this update?

No.

Will there by any direct or instructor-led support?

Yes, weekly drop-in Touch UI Authoring Q&A sessions will begin Tuesday, January 4th from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Authors may also reserve time during the regularly scheduled twice monthly 1:1 support sessions. View the Q&A and Support Session Schedule. Keep your eyes open to the newsletter for new and upcoming offerings.
