Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC)

PSC is a fibrosing liver disease that has no approvedĀ treatment, andĀ is often associated with ulcerative colitis. The affected extra- intrahepatic bile ducts often show an onion-skin appearance where the duct is surrounded by dense fibrous tissue. The pathomechanism of the inflammatory and fibrogenic cascades in this disease are not well understood, and we are focusing on a novel collaborative translational project where modulating cholangiocyte responses to the changing ECM may provide a rationale therapy.
