Introduction to the Curriculum and General Information
In collaboration with Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke, this curriculum was created and tailored to reflect the unique cultural context and drug use trends among young people in Northern Ireland. The program provides age-appropriate lesson plans and resources for:
- Primary school 2 lessons
- Post-primary school (years 8-10) 5 lessons
- Primary school (years 11-14). 6 lessons
Every lesson is around 50 minutes and provides various activities, online quiz games, presentations, and other resources aimed at addressing key factors associated with youth e-cigarette use. This includes changing adolescents’ attitudes towards and misperceptions about e-cigarettes; increasing their refusal skills to pulls of flavors, marketing, and social media; reducing stress and depression which have been linked to e-cigarette initiation and use; improving coping; and decreasing intentions and actual use of all e-cigarette products.
As part of the Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit, this Northern Ireland Version of the You and Me, Together Vape-Free curriculum is a theory-based and evidence-informed curriculum created by the Stanford REACH Lab as well as by our Youth Action Board, our partners at Northern Ireland Chest, Heart, and Stroke, educators, healthcare providers, and scientists from Northern Ireland.
