Lab Overview

The Hsing Lab is at the forefront of precision well-being, cancer prevention, and Asian American health research. Our research focuses on cancer etiology to inform strategies for cancer prevention, on preventive health interventions for Asian American populations, and on measurement and promotion of well-being across cultures and geographies.

Based in the Stanford Prevention Research Center (SPRC) in the Department of Medicine at Stanford Medicine, Dr. Hsing’s research program combines molecular and genetic epidemiology and wearable technology in population-based cross-sectional, case-control, and cohort studies as well as intervention studies. Our mission is to advance our understanding of cancer epidemiology, etiology, prevention, and early detection using multiple biomarkers. Currently, we are contributing to a national effort to establish the scientific foundation for improving the health of Asian Americans.

The Hsing Lab also conducts research to enhance individual and community well-being through lifestyle, behavior, and psychological assessment. Our latest project integrates omics and heart rate variability data into epidemiologic profiles to assess stress, mental health, and well-being. This project uses wearable technology to measure heart rate variability over time.

We strive to provide research results foundational to implementation science and to share our scientific findings with the community through outreach, education, and engagement. Our ultimate goal is to make a tangible impact on disease prevention and on the cultivation of well-being in individuals and communities.
