Staff Recognition Awards
The Staff Recognition Awards are designed to honor and celebrate the outstanding contributions of our staff, who consistently go above and beyond in their roles. This is our opportunity to formally recognize the dedication, hard work, and positive impact our team brings to the department every day.
Your input truly matters. Please take a moment to reflect on the remarkable contributions of your colleagues and nominate those who exemplify the spirit of excellence, service, and mentorship. Your nominations will make our first-ever Staff Recognition Awards a meaningful celebration of our incredible team.
We invite you to nominate your colleagues for the following awards:
💫 Inspirational Service Award: Recognize outstanding service and contributions to daily operations, teamwork, and department morale.
⭐ Guiding Star Award: Celebrate those who excel as mentors—nurturing professional development, offering career guidance, and building a culture of learning.
Award: The winner will receive a $750 check.
Eligibility criteria: Staff members must have been employed as regular (including bargaining unit) employees, at 50% FTE or more, in the Department of Surgery for the past year, as of September 1, 2024.
Who can nominate: Any faculty, staff, resident, fellow, or postdoctoral scholar who are at 50% FTE or more working in the Department of Surgery may nominate an eligible staff member.

Inspirational Service Award
The Inspirational Service Award recognizes a staff member who consistently delivers exceptional service and support across the Department of Surgery. Through their work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to help, they uplift those around them and set a high standard for teamwork and dedication.

Human Resources Administrator
From her nomination: Anna’s positive attitude and approachable nature are equally inspiring. Colleagues note the energy and warmth she brings to her role each day, as well as her patience and respect when helping others navigate HR policies and processes. She proactively develops tools, such as Smartsheet trackers and forms for temporary hires, unpaid student trainees, hybrid/remote work, and hiring exceptions, which have greatly improved efficiency and reduced errors.
Guiding Star Award
The Guiding Star Award honors staff who serve as exceptional mentors within the Department of Surgery. These individuals foster growth by sharing knowledge, offering guidance, and supporting the professional development of their colleagues. With empathy, integrity, and generosity, they help others navigate challenges, build skills, and reach their potential.
