ISCBRM Siebel Scholar Program

The Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (ISCBRM) Siebel Scholar Program aims to support mentored fellows who are dedicated to pursuing academic careers. The goal of this program is to support senior  trainees (postdoctoral fellows nearing exhaustion of eligibility and AS-R or Instructors within their first year) who aspire to transition into faculty positions.  All projects must be significantly related to basic and/or translational research in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, and proposals should clearly articulate how the research will advance these disciplines. This program aims to position the awardee to be a successful applicant for future extramural career development or independent funding.

Funding Level:

$50,000 direct/year, up to 2 years

Eligibility:

  • Postdocs in Year 4+ and current 1st year AS-Rs or Instructors
  • Must be under the mentorship of an ISCBRM Principal Member
  • Postdocs must plan to transition into an Instructor or AS-R position within 1 year
  • Plan to submit a career development award during their term as a Siebel Scholar.
  • Proposed training must support a clear path to independence and lay out a credible plan that will benefit from continued mentorship

Proposal Review Process:

Proposals will be reviewed by the leadership team at the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (ISCBRM) to ensure compliance with the RFP and alignment with the overall goals of the funding program. The leadership team will evaluate submissions and make recommendations to the Director for the final selection of awardees in August.

Program Requirements:

  • Attend and Present (poster or oral) at ISCBRM Annual Scientific Retreat

Reporting Requirements:

Recipients must submit an interim report due one month prior to the end of the first year. A final report is due within 2 months after project completion. The final report should contain research results, a list of publications, conference talks, grant applications emerging from the research, and include a lay abstract summary of the project and outcomes.

Awardees will be expected to acknowledge the funding source in abstracts and publications.
