Clinical Ancillary System Data
Research Technology partners with the Research Informatics Center (RIC) to bring clinical ancillary data not in Epic to the Stanford Medicine research community. The current status of clinical ancillary data availability for research is summarized below.
Clinical Ancillary |
Adult (SHC) |
Childrens' (SCH) |

Radiology
To request Radiology DICOM files, please follow this process. |
Radiology is a shared service used by both hospitals. Radiology images are stored in DICOM format. The current PACS system since 2019 is Sectra; historical data comes from the GE PACS. We have Radiology DICOM from the year 2000 through the present day. The following modalities are available for bulk download for both adults and children: CT, MRI, XRay, Mammo, Ultrasound, Angio, and Presentation State. |

Vital Sign Bedside Monitors
|
We have Adult high resolution data (1 second vital numerics; up to 500 sample-per-second ECG waveforms) for the period 2020-present. We also have low resolution data (readings every 5 minutes) from 2010-2020. None of these have yet been processed into vendor neutral format. If interested, please let us know by opening a consultation request. |
Pediatric historical vital sign data, both numeric and waveform, is available from 2007- present. We have low fidelity (5 min. interval) measurement data from 2007-2017, and high fidelity data (1 sec interval), including waveforms and metadata as well as measurements, from 2017 - present. If interested, please open a consultation request. |
|
Clinical Photos from the Epic "Blob Server"
|
We have on hand all photos from 2013 to 2020 tagged as "Photo Derm" and can pull photos with other tags upon request. To request adult clinical photos, please open a consultation request. |
Pediatric clinical photos are not currently in STARR. If interested, please open a consultation request. |
|
Echocardiogram
|
XCelera is the current system at SHC. We have a complete research copy of measurement and interpreted data from the DICOM images up to Nov 2021. We also have Echo DICOM (image) files, though ~10% are missing linkage data. To request adult Echo measurement data files, please open a consultation request. |
We can download 100 Pediatric Echo DICOM studies per night. We do not have ready access to the associated structured data but can put you in touch with the IT folks who do. If interested, please open a consultation request. |
|
Electrocardiogram aka ECG/EKG
|
STARR has a complete copy of the SHC iECG database, consisting of TraceMasterVue data from 2013 - 2018 and the newer iECG data captured on ISCV from 2019 - Nov 2021. Philips ISCV is the current system at SHC. To request adult ECG waveform files, please open a consultation request. |
Pediatric ECG not currently in STARR. If interested, please open a consultation request. |
|
Hemodynamics
|
STARR has a copy of the SHC Xper database, consisting of hemodynamics data from 2017 to the present. We also have Apollo data from 1994-2017. To request hemodynamic data files, please open a consultation request. If you wish DICOM, please be sure to also tick the DICOM checkbox on the intake form. |
Pediatric hemodynamics data not currently in STARR. If interested, please open a consultation request. |
|
Blood Transfusion
|
SafeTraceTx is the sole blood bank system for both adult and pediatric hospitals. We have historical data up to March 2020. To request adult and/or pediatric transfusion management data from SafeTraceTx, please open a consultation request. |

Cancer Related Clinical Ancillaries
To request cancer-related clinical ancillary data, please open a consultation request. |
The SCIRDB has both pediatric and adult cancer patient data from ARIA, Powerpath, and the Cancer Tumor Registry. ARIA is operated by Radiology, which is a shared hospital service, and Powerpath is operated by Pathology, also a shared hospital service. The two tumor registries are separate but both are available to the SCIRDB. |
