The SPHERE Pilot Grants Program will accelerate testing and incorporation of novel concepts and methodologies in disparities research and ensure active participation of consortium partners and community based organizations in the full range of SPHERE Center activities.


2019 SPHERE Pilot Grant Request for Proposals

Our Goal

SPHERE is dedicated to identifying genetic, biological, and environmental approaches to help reduce disease in minority populations. 

The SPHERE Pilot Grants Program aims to utilize SPHERE ethical guidelines in the development of precision health research projects that foster and facilitate innovative research addressing ethnic and racial health disparities.

The Logistics

Eligibility:

Stanford PI-eligible faculty are eligible. Preference will be given to PI eligible faculty that are collaborating with community partners.

Total Funds Available ($50,000):

One or two pilot grants will be awarded in the range of $25,000 - $50,000 for a one-year grant period. All unexpended funds will be forfeited if not spent within the allotted award period.

Projects selected must submit an IRB approval and must be approved by the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) prior to awards being made. 

Timing:

Awards will be granted annually for the period from April 01 through March 31 and must be completed in that timeframe.    

Review Process:

A committee represented by community members and Stanford staff and faculty will review Pilot Grant applications.
