Peter Poullos, MD

Clinical Professor of Radiology
Founder/Co-Chair, Stanford Medicine Alliance for Disability Inclusion and Equity (SMADIE) at Stanford

Dr. Poullos was a Gastrointestinal (GI) Fellow at UCSF and in 2003 became a C3-C4 incomplete quadriplegic. He then decided to retrain as a radiologist at Stanford Medicine, joining their Radiology faculty in 2009 in the Body Imaging Division. In 2018, Dr. Poullos founded and now co-chairs the Stanford Medicine Alliance for Disability, Inclusion & Equity (SMADIE) organization.

Inclusion of disabled health care providers is not only a moral imperative but crucial to improving health equity for our patients. Oned day we will view disability not as a weakness or a liability, but something to celebrate as a strength.

Ken Sutha, MD, PhD

Instructor, Pediatrics - Nephrology at Stanford Children's Health
Co-Chair, Stanford Medicine Alliance for Disability Inclusion and Equity (SMADIE) at Stanford

Dr. Sutha is a pediatric nephrologist scientist and NIH-funded investigator. In addition to his work in the lab and his clinical work caring for children with kidney disease, he is a two-time kidney transplant recipient, former dialysis patient, and co-chair of the Stanford Alliance for Disability Inclusion and Equity.


Our work is important to me for the collective power of those with different kinds of disabilities/chronic illness and their allies to bring about chagne for the better in medicine.
