About the Division of Sleep Medicine

Who We Are  

Our Division is based on collaborative partnerships between our clinicians, researchers, sleep technologists, and clinical staff.  We are proud of our multidisciplinary and world-renowned faculty, with the highest levels of sleep medicine training and expertise, which includes specialists in neurology, pulmonary medicine, psychiatry, psychology, pediatrics, dentistry, and otolaryngology. Many of our physicians pioneered the methods and practices that are commonly used today in sleep medicine. Our faculty is accompanied by exceptionally experienced and specialized clinical staff and technologists. The Division also has the oldest and one of the largest sleep medicine fellowships in the world, in which 8 clinical fellows with diverse specialties train with us in our 1-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) fellowship. In addition to our ACGME fellowship, we also take pride in our training of technologists, students, post-graduate fellows (M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent), and visiting faculty from diverse countries throughout the world.  Lastly, our internationally-recognized scientists who direct six major laboratories are exploring the most fundamental and critical questions regarding basic sleep mechanisms and new management approaches for sleep disorders.  We concentrate on the essential questions of understanding why we need sleep, the molecular and cellular underpinnings of sleep and circadian disorders, and what are the latest and best diagnosis and therapeutic tools for individuals with sleep problems. The Stanford Sleep Medicine Center has forged the way for the entirety of the fields of sleep medicine and sleep research, and will continue to achieve success in groundbreaking clinical advancements for patients throughout the world.
