Overview

Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignancy involving the skull base.  It accounts for two-thirds of skull base cancers, and typically begins in the sinuses or nasal cavity and can extend up towards the brain.  Approximately 10% of patients present with tumor spread to the lymph nodes of the neck.  Another 20% will develop cancer in the lymph nodes if they are not treated.
