Bing Su, PhD

Dr. Bing Su is the Director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology and Chair of Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) School of Medicine, and an Adjunct Professor of Department of Immunobiology at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Su also holds a KC Wong Chair Professor at Shanghai JiaoTong University and a Changjiang Chair Professor at Central South University. He is an awardee of “Recruitment Program of Global Experts” (1000 Talent Plan). He obtained his B.S. degree from Peking University in 1984 and his Ph.D. degree from Yale University in 1991. He did his postdoctoral training with Dr. Michael Karin at the University of California San Diego before starting his academic career in 1995 as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center where he was promoted to a tenured full Professor in 2006. He then moved to Yale University School of Medicine in 2006 and became a tenured faculty at the Department of Immunobiology until 2014 when he relocated to SJTU in China. Dr. Su’s research focuses on the intracellular signal transduction pathways controlled by the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and the mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs). He studies the roles of these intracellular signaling cascades in immune regulation and vascular function. Dr. Su has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers many in high impact journals such as Cell, Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Immunology, Immunity and Molecular Cell. His research has been supported from grants awarded by NIH, DOD, ACS, as well as National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Shanghai Science and Technology Commission. Dr. Su is a member of Chinese Biological Investigator Society and a member of Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America (SCBA). He served on many review committees including NIH Study Sections, the Review Committee for the Key Programs of NSFC, Changjiang Scholar Program, and the “Recruitment Program of Global Experts” (1000 Talent Plan). Dr. Su is also an enthusiastic educator teaching at University of Texas, Yale, SJTU, Central South University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University and Tsinghua University.
