Welcome from the Program Director
Family Medicine Residency Program
Welcome!
We are building a new Family Medicine Residency Program and we are excited about having 8 interns start in June 2025. As our residents, you will help shape the curriculum, have a voice in your education, and define the future of this residency program. You will also have the support from an impressive, dedicated and skilled group of Stanford faculty and clinicians across multiple specialties.
I have been training Family Medicine residents for almost 30 years and have had the privilege to support over 250 graduates as the Program Director. My primary focus is to build and support a safe, positive and supportive culture for our residents and support them unconditionally so they can succeed. While residency can be stressful, these 3 years are a significant time of transition, personal and professional growth, development of self-identity, and so much more.
Major life events frequently happen during residency. Life-long bonds solidify here with each other. Residents often welcome spouses or little ones to their families or endure difficulties that mirror what our patients experience. I have experienced and witnessed the spectrum of the many joys and challenges of residency from myself when I was a resident, in my child who is currently a FM resident, and with all of my graduates who are like family. In every case, even during the most difficult times, we got through it together and came out stronger. It is why I am so focused on our culture of mutual support and resident wellness.
As the Program Director, my residents have my total commitment to help them succeed and graduate. By working together, we will be successful in developing all of you into amazing family physicians.
We will laugh, care for each other, care for our patients, and have a lot of fun along the way. We will celebrate your triumphs and hard-earned wins.
