Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is a core value for our GME team. We support residents and faculty who have traveled a further distance to reach a career in medicine and will provide them with the resources and mentorship to succeed once they are here. We want all residents and faculty to truly feel included and have a voice in the GME programs and community. All residents will learn how to identify the needs of and advocate for vulnerable patients. We welcome you in joining us to build an inclusive and mutually supportive culture.
Our GME initiatives include:
- DEIB training available for all program leaders and core faculty
- Quarterly DEI Grand Rounds for all residents, on topics such as structural racism in healthcare, recognizing implicit bias and microaggressions, and upstander training.
- Having faculty and resident presence on the SHC Tri-Valley Inclusion, Diversity, and Health Equity Council, which promotes DEIB initiatives throughout the institution and engages with community partners
- Valuing diversity in the inclusive recruitment process of faculty and residents
- Community outreach, including health fairs in the Tri-Valley and showing our presence at many local East Bay community events every month – from the Livermore Cultural Celebration series, Indigenous People’s Day celebrations, Oakland Chinatown’s Lunar New Year celebrations, Oakland Pride Parade to community job fairs and the Native American Health Center’s annual run
