Cell Specific Gene Expression Pattern in Severe Trauma

Trauma patients' experience both monocyte and T cell dysfunctions during the development of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) as well as a severe T cell depletion. We examine gene expression patterns in isolated cell populations from patients of severe trauma.

Impact/Significance

Patient outcomes after trauma depend critically on the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses

Cell specific assays enable understanding of body’s systematic reactions to injury and inflammation

Accomplishments

Gene expression profiling of negative selected T-cell and monocyte populations as well as blood leukocytes from severe trauma patients and controls

Identification of cell specific activation of biological networks in the development of MODS
