True Image

Patient-facing app to validate photos for clarity and focus before sending them to care team

Problem Statement

Dermatology increasingly relies on photos rather than in-person visits to assess a skin concern. If the photo is out of focus or too dim, the dermatologist must request a re-take which can result in delay of care.

App Overview

Patients can send photos of a skin concern directly to their provider in My Health, and providers can request Dermatology eConsults via photo taken via Epic's mobile provider apps. The True Image app is an externally facing web site that patients can browse to on their phone or tablet. They are prompted to take photos, and each photo is then assessed for image quality by an AI model.  The expectation is that a patient will keep trying to take a photo of their skin concern until the app tells them it is good enough to send to their doctor. The final photos are then sent to the care team as an attachment on an Epic In Basket message.
