The Santa Maria and Cegelski Labs awarded grant to study quorum sensing molecules

Stanford's Maternal and Child Health Research Institute has awarded a two-year collaborative effort between the Santa Maria and Cegelski Lab to understand if Quorum Sensing molecules lead to hearing loss in ear infections. Quorum Sensing molecules are the signals bacteria send to each other to change their properties to work together in biofilm communities. This work could lead to a discovery on how ear infections cause permanent sensory hearing loss.
