Omar Rutledge

Omar Rutledge, PhD candidate @ MIT

Omar is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT. He is also a veteran of the Iraq War and is focused on understanding the neural correlates of PTSD in veterans and civilians alike using a variety of neuroimaging methods, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and magnetoencephalography (MEG). After serving the in the US Army as an infantry soldier, Omar earned a Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Masters in Biomedical Imaging from the University of California, San Francisco. His current research centers around understanding how loneliness and a lack of social connection can lead to a worsening of symptoms in conditions such as PTSD.
