Joseph Cheng, PhD

Joseph is a machine learning researcher and lead at Need. He obtained his B.S. and M.Eng. in EECS from MIT, and then completed his PhD in EE at Stanford University. At Stanford, he spent a decade in medical imaging research where he led the development of signal processing and machine learning tools to push the boundaries of medical imaging technology. He has made numerous contributions to the medical imaging field as noted by numerous publications and patents. Additionally, he has worked across the industry including Apple, Google, and Humane. At Apple, he was a Staff Research Scientist and Technical Lead Manager for a research algorithms team developing machine learning tools for powering biosignal-based experiences. Throughout his career, he has been passionate about innovating technologies that can positively impact people’s health.
