Fernando Boada, PhD

Fernando Boada, PhD, joined Radiology and RSL as Professor and Associate Chair, Basic Science Translational Research in November, 2021. Dr. Boada received three degrees in Physics: his BS in 1985 from Universidad Simon Bolivar, his MSc in 1989 and PhD in 1990, both from Case Western Reserve University. After one year of post-doctoral work in MRI at Case Western Reserve, he spent two years at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, first as a post-doctoral fellow and later as an Instructor in Radiology. He then joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh where he was Professor of Radiology and Bioengineering and the Director of the University of Pittsburgh MR Research Center until 2012 when he joined NYU as Professor of Radiology and Director for the Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research and Co-Director for the Center for Biomedical Imaging. His research interests include neurological disease, musculoskeletal disease, and cancer. He will help build our MR-PET program at Stanford, as well as mentoring our junior faculty. He is one of the pioneers of 3D non-Cartesian MRI, as well as sodium MRI applied to clinical applications including evaluation of stroke.
