About
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a chronic and disabling disorder that costs the economy over $2 billion annually and represents a significant public health problem. This study builds on our discovery that a potent NMDA receptor antagonist, ketamine, has rapid (hours) and robust therapeutic effects in OCD and will help us understand how ketamine works to relieve repetitive thoughts and behaviours.
Purpose: To understand how new drug brings about rapid improvement in OCD symptoms.
This clinical study is funded by the by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and is listed in clinicaltrials.gov.
Participate
The Stanford Translational OCD Research Program is looking for adults 18-65 years old with OCD to take part in a study providing these possible benefits:
- Free diagnostic evaluation
- Free test of your memory and attention
- Compensation up to $400 after study completion
- Your choice of free OCD psychotherapy or pharmacology after study completion
You can participate if:
- You are 18-65 years old
- You have a primary diagnosis of OCD
- You have sufficient severity of OCD symptoms
- You have the ability to tolerate a treatment-free period
- You have the capacity to provide informed consent
You cannot participate if:
- You have a psychiatric or medical conditions that makes participation unsafe
- You are pregnant or nursing female
- You have a major medical or neurological problem
- You have metallic device or dental braces that would prevent you from receiving an MRI scan
Duration of Study Involvement
- Each individual will participate in a free diagnostic evaluation by experienced OCD clinicians
- If eligible the study will involve at least 3 in person study visits
- During the follow-up period, we will follow your clinical symptoms by phone
- Following the completion of the study you will have the choice of free OCD psychotherapy or pharmacology
