DoD Rare Cancers Research Program
Concept Award
Amount of funding: Total costs budgeted for the entire period of performance will not exceed $140,000.
Purpose: The FY25 RCRP Concept Award supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking novel concepts in rare cancers. The Concept Award is not intended to support an incremental progression of an already established research project; instead, it allows PIs the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. Preliminary data are not required. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation.
Eligibility: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI.
Not eligible: Although it states “Investigators at or above the level of postdoctoral fellow (or equivalent) are eligible to be named as a PI”, the RFP is a research grant and not a mentored career development award (the RFP and the application do not require a statement from the mentor). Therefore, Stanford Instructors, Clinical Instructors, Academic Staff-research, an Postdocs are not eligible as they are unable to qualify for a career development PI waiver.

Idea Development Award
Amount of funding: Total costs budgeted for the entire period of performance will not exceed $490,000.
Purpose: The FY25 RCRP Idea Development Award promotes new ideas that are still in the early stages of development and have the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation. This award supports research supported by preliminary data that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate progress toward eradicating rare cancers.
Eligibility: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI.
