DoD Pancreatic Cancer Research Program
Idea Development Award
Amount of funding: Direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance will not exceed $500,000. Direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance with a Partnering PI Option for Early-Career Investigator will not exceed $650,000.
Purpose: The PCARP Idea Development Award supports the development of innovative, high-risk/highreward research that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate progress in improving outcomes for individuals with pancreatic cancer. This award mechanism is designed to support innovative ideas with the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation.
Eligibility: For Single PI applications: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI. For application submissions under the Partnering PI Option for Early-Career Investigator: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the Initiating PI (mentor). By the full application submission date, the Partnering PI (Early-Career Investigator) must:
-Have instructor-level (or equivalent) faculty appointment or above. Instructors must obtain an approved Career Development PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent.
-Be no more than 10 years from the receipt of a terminal degree (excluding time spent in residency or on family medical leave) at the time of the application deadline.

Translational Research Partnership Award
Amount of funding: Direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance will not exceed $750,000.
Purpose: The FY23 PCARP Translational Research Partnership Award supports partnerships between clinicians and research scientists that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas in pancreatic cancer toward clinical applications. This award supports the development of translational research collaborations between two independent investigators to address a central problem or question in pancreatic cancer in a manner that would be less readily achievable through separate efforts. One partner in the collaboration must function as a research scientist and the other partner as a clinician investigator. It should be clear that both have had equal intellectual input in the design of the research project. Projects involving convergence science partnerships are strongly encouraged. At least one partner must have expertise either in pancreatic cancer research or pancreatic cancer patient care.
Eligibility: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI. One partner in the collaboration must function as a research scientist and the other as a clinician investigator. At least one member of the partnership must have expertise either in pancreatic cancer research or pancreatic cancer patient care.

Focused Pilot Award
Amount of funding: Direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance will not exceed $200,000.
Purpose: The PCARP Focused Pilot Award supports the exploration and development of impactful and innovative concepts under two patient-centered focus areas of pancreatic cancer research that could ultimately lead to major advancements that will have a profound effect on patients’ overall quality of life..
PI Eligibility: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI or Partnering PI.
Stanford eligibility clarification - Fellows are not eligible: even though the guidelines indicate "postdoctoral fellow or clinical fellow" may serve as PI, the application and guidelines do not require to a mentor. Therefore, this award is considered a research grant in which the Stanford PIship policy only permits faculty to apply. Since it is not mentored career development award, Instructors, Clinical Instructors, Academic Staff-Research (i.e., research associates), Postdocs, and Clinical fellows are not eligible (they may not submit career development PI waivers).
