Clinical Research Award
Amount of funding-Level 1: Total costs budgeted for the entire period of performance may not exceed $400,000.
Amount of funding-Level 2: Total costs budgeted for the entire period of performance may not exceed $2M.
Purpose: The FY23 OPORP CRA is intended to support clinical research that evaluates orthoses and/or prostheses using patient-centric outcomes relevant to Service Members and military beneficiaries, Veterans, and other individuals with limb loss and/or limb impairment. Research supported by this mechanism is intended to generate clinically useful evidence with potential to optimize patient outcomes and inform clinical or policy decisions. The FY23 OPORP is also interested in multidisciplinary projects that address strategies to mitigate secondary injuries. Studies proposing or evaluating rehabilitation strategies must indicate how the rehabilitation may improve the orthotic or prosthetic device outcome when compared to standard of care.
Eligibility: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI.
Not eligible: Instructors, Clinical Instructors, Academic Staff-Research (i.e., research associates), Postdocs, and Clinical fellows are not eligible.

Clinical Trial Award

Purpose: The FY23 OPORP CTA is intended to support the rapid implementation of clinical trials with the potential to have a significant impact on improving the health and well-being of Service Members and military beneficiaries, Veterans, and other individuals with limb loss and/or limb impairment. This award mechanism supports clinical trials that evaluate orthoses and/or prostheses using patient-centric outcomes for the purpose of generating clinically useful evidence to enhance and optimize patient outcomes. Proposed projects may range from small proof-of-concept trials to demonstrate feasibility or inform the design of more advanced trials, through large-scale trials in relevant patient populations.
