DoD Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research Program
Idea Development Award
Amount of funding: Direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance will not exceed $350,000.
Purpose: The DMDRP IDA promotes new ideas that are still in the early stages of development and have the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation. This award supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate progress in improving outcomes for individuals with DMD. Applications should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale.
Eligibility: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI. See guidelines for definitions of Established and New Investigators.
Timeline:
Pre-Application (Letter of Intent) Deadline: August 2, 2023 via eBrap
Please include your RPM’s name as business official in the pre-application.
Institutional representative (RPM/RMG or CGO/OSR) Deadline: August 16, 2023
Application Submission Deadline: August 23, 2023 via grants.gov

Translational Research Award
Amount of funding: Direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance will not exceed $1.25M or $1.35M for the Early-Career Partnering PI Option.
Purpose: The FY23 DMDRP TRA mechanism supports advanced translational research that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas in DMD research into clinical applications. Translational research may be defined as an integration of basic science and clinical observations. Observations that drive a research idea may originate from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, or a clinician’s firsthand knowledge of patient care. The ultimate goal of translational research is to move a concept or observation forward into clinical application. However, Principal Investigators (PIs) should not view translational research as a one-way continuum from bench to bedside. The research plan must involve a reciprocal flow of ideas and information between basic and clinical science.
Eligibility: Independent investigators - Faculty with PI eligibility and CE faculty (with an approved CE faculty PI waiver obtained through their RPM in RMG prior to the pre-application/letter of intent) may be the PI.
