SCIRDB Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! We can help you build a cohort using diagnoses, ICD-9/10 or ICD-O codes, and CPT billing codes. We can also help you identify subjects by doing complex searches involving dictations and other notes. Additionally, we can identify which subjects have tissue stored in the Stanford Tissue bank.

We provide extensive tools for browsing and searching existing data. We can also integrate cohort data with tools like REDCap to facilitate the curation of existing data or to add study-specific information.

Please request a consultation and we will contact you to schedule an initial meeting. Note that we may require that the principal investigator be present during the initial project discussion since we will need to discuss the scientific goals, determine the extent of sensitive information needed, and verify direct involvement of the Stanford Cancer Institute member. This input from the principal investigator also facilitates approval by the SCI Informatics Steering Committee.

If the request requires collaboration from multiple clinical research groups (CRGs), then it’s the requester’s responsibility to provide us with the collaborating PI's details for the appropriate disease group.

When you request a consultation, provide the information in the checklist below to expedite your research request:

1. Provide the name of a Stanford Cancer Institute member who will sponsor your research project.
2. Provide the approved Stanford IRB protocol number for the project.
3. Ensure that all people who need access to the data have an approved Data Privacy Attestation for the approved Stanford IRB.
4. Ensure that all personnel who will interact with the data have completed CITI HIPAA training.

We will work with you to develop the scope of work and provide a cost estimate for your project.
