Medical Fellows

Karen Levy Gynecologic Oncology Medical Fellow

Education: M.D., University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, 2014

Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, Connecticut, 2018

B.S., Biological Sciences, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 2010

Research Interests: Karen was a clinical Gynecologic Oncology Fellow completing a research year in Dr. Rankin's lab. The focus of her research was on optimizing total abdominal radiation and minimizing toxicity to make it a safer potential future treatment option for ovarian cancer.

Current Position:

Gynecologic Oncologist at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center

Stephanie Chow  Gynecologic Oncology Fellow

Email: stephchow@stanford.edu

Education: M.D., Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, 2015

Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, Santa Clara, CA, 2019

B.A., Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California, Berkeley, Berkeley, CA, 2011

Research Interests: Stephanie is a clinical Gynecologic Oncology Fellow completing a research year in Dr. Rankin's lab. The focus of her research is on elucidating the effects and mechanisms of total abdominal radiation for the potential future treatment option for ovarian cancer.

Current Position:

Clinical Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology - Gynecological Oncology

Post-Doctoral Scholar

Suchitra Natarajan Post-Doctoral Scholar

Education: Ph.D., Human Anatomy and Cell Science, University of Manitoba, Canada, 2016

B.S., Industrial Biotechnology, Prathyusha Engineering College, Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, 2007

Research Interests: Suchitra's research interests was in studying the tumor microenvironment. Suchitra's postdoctoral research in the lab focused on exploring the metastatic ovarian tumor microenvironment and the early events that contribute to the formation of the metastatic niche.

Current Position:

Senior Scientist, Discovery Oncology at Merck

Jin Qian Post-Doctoral Scholar

Education: Ph.D., Internal Medicine (Digestive Disease) Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, 2016

B.S., Clinical Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, 2011

Research Interest: Mesothelial cells line the peritoneal cavity and constitute an appreciable proportion of the cells in the ascites fluid, which is characteristic of the high-grade ovarian cancer patients. Jin was interested in how these mesothelial cell population interacts with the tumor cell to affect its aggressiveness in high-grade ovarian cancer.

Yiren Xiao Post-Doctoral Scholar

Education: Ph.D. Cell Biology, Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou, China, 2016
Research Focus: hematopoietic stem cell and tumor immunology

B.A. Biotechnology, Xiangnan University, Chenzhou, Hunan, China, 2011

Research Interest: Yiren Xiao’s project was to identify gene(s) that is(are) important for kidney tumor cell survival and growth in an orthotopic mouse model. He was focused on the nature of AXL in kidney cancer cell survival and growth in the kidney micro-environment.

Hussein Shehade Post-Doctoral Scholar

Education: Ph.D. Immunology/Molecular Biology, Université libre de Bruxelles, 2014

Masters in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Université libre de Bruxelles, 2009

Current Position:

Senoir Scientist at iTeos Therapeutics

Ph.D.Student

Josh Eggold Ph.D. Student

Education: B.A., Cellular and Molecular Biology, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, 2015

Research Interests:  Josh's research interest was on how different immune cell populations in the tumor microenvironment interact with hypoxia and cancer cells to either promote or inhibit tumor growth. Josh's projects focused specifically on macrophages and eosinophils in melanoma and ovarian cancer, and how they can be leveraged to design more effective anti-tumor immunotherapies.

Current Position:

Postdoctoral Investigator, Department of Pathology, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA

Graduate Student

Albert Li Ph.D. Student

Education: B.A., Physical and Chemical Biology, Harvard College, 2016

Research Interests: Albert is broadly interested in molecular mechanisms of metastasis and cellular interactions in the tumor microenvironment. His current projects include investigating the immunological role of AXL in ovarian cancer (Rankin lab) and serine metabolism during breast cancer metastasis (Ye and Rankin labs).

Current Position:

Postdoctoral Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer
