Alaa Youssef

Dr. Alaa Youssef is a Lead Medical Education Scholar at Stanford’s Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI). Her research focuses on responsible AI implementation in health care, with particular emphasis on how clinicians interact with AI systems. She examines the ethical, safety, and fairness considerations critical to integrating AI into real-world clinical workflows.

Dr. Youssef applies competency-based medical education (CBME) frameworks to design training programs that equip healthcare professionals with the practical skills needed to achieve meaningful, patient-centered outcomes. She holds a PhD in Data Science and Population Health and has completed advanced training in medical education at both the University of Toronto and the Stanford School of Medicine.

She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and advises public, private, and nonprofit organizations on responsible AI strategy, education reform, and healthcare data governance. She co-founded the Stanford AIMI High School Education Program, mentored in Stanford HAI’s 2022 AI4ALL Summer Program, and served as a subject matter expert for Stanford TDS, contributing to the development of foundational AI training programs for Stanford Health Care.
