Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Designated an ACR Diagnostic Imaging Center

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health was recently designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). 

The designation process includes a comprehensive evaluation to ensure that the organization meets the high standards of the ACR for providing imaging-based care across all imaging modalities: radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography, MRI, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. This recognition represents the pinnacle of medical imaging care, solidifying that Stanford Children’s imaging services team provides top-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care.

“This is an exciting time for our team,” says Shreyas Vasanawala, MD, PhD, radiologist in chief at Stanford Children’s and the William R. Brody Professor of Pediatric Radiology and Child Health at Stanford University. “We went through a very comprehensive evaluation to ensure that we’re meeting the high standards of the ACR for providing imaging-based care—not only in image acquisition, but also in professionalism, image interpretation, clinical competency, radiation management, and a whole host of safety metrics to achieve this distinction.”

To be designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, organizations need to provide patients with the highest levels of imaging quality, safety, and care, have an ongoing process for self-assessment and improvement, and maintain excellence across all levels from professional staff, to technology, policy, and procedures.

The Stanford Children’s imaging services team were specifically recognized for their excellence in organization and governance structure, partnership with operations and medical leadership under each modality, MRI safety practices, and electronic logging systems for quality control and environmental surveying.
