On behalf of the Stanford Department of Radiology, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Aya Kamaya, MD, Professor of Radiology, as Interim Division Chief of Body Imaging, effective April 12, 2021. Aya received her AB, summa cum laude, in Engineering Sciences and in Asian Studies from Dartmouth College in 1995, and her MD from University of Utah School of Medicine in 1999.

She completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine in 2004, followed by a Body Imaging fellowship at Stanford in 2005. She is a nationally recognized leader in the field of Diagnostic Ultrasound and in 2013 became one of the youngest Fellows elected to the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, where she is currently serving as President Elect on the Executive Board. She has published three textbooks on the topic of ultrasound and the second edition of her textbook, Diagnostic Ultrasound Abdomen Pelvis, will be published in July 2021. Aya is an outstanding and dedicated teacher, voted Teacher of the Year twice. Aya and the faculty in Body Imaging will continue to build on their success to further advance the division in terms of its clinical, research, educational, and administrative missions.
