Joseph Wu, MD, PhD, has received an American Heart Association Merit Award that will look at how to match the right drug to the right patient. Dr. Wu, the Simon H. Stertzer, MD Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and Radiology, and the Director of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, plans to use so-called induced stem cells and novel techniques to grab genetic information with the hopes to launch precision cardiovascular medicine from bench to bedside by matching "the best drugs for the individuals who will be most likely to benefit from them, as well as reduce mistakes in giving the wrong drugs to patients."
The AHA Merit Award is given out to two established investigators each year to support "visionary leaders."
Congratulations, Dr. Wu!
