Medical Students
The Stanford Department of Radiology is dedicated to the education and mentorship of medical students while fostering early engagement with the fields of diagnostic and interventional radiology and biomedical imaging science. We are committed to strengthening the continuum from medical student to resident to fellow, with the goal of preparing the next generation of radiologists and imaging scientists. A commitment to inclusive excellence is central to our academic mission.
Message from the Director
As Director of Medical Student Education, I am honored to lead the management, innovation, and outreach of our educational programs within the Stanford Department of Radiology, while serving as a central point of contact for medical students across the continuum from pre-clinical to clinical training. We are deeply committed to mentoring and supporting learners at every stage, fostering a strong and inclusive pipeline into diagnostic and interventional radiology and biomedical imaging science.Â
We are dedicated to expanding access and early exposure—from high school and undergraduate experiences through medical school, residency, and fellowship—while strengthening the continuum of training. Our outreach efforts are designed to engage learners early and broaden participation in the field.
We offer a wide range of clerkships and educational opportunities tailored to both foundational learning and advanced exploration. Our faculty are equally committed to supporting students pursuing careers in radiology and those entering other specialties, recognizing the essential role of imaging across all areas of medicine.

Equipping Radiology Residents as Teachers
in Enhancing Medical Student Education
Timothy Lee, MD
The goal of this project is to establish a resident-student mentorship model within the radiology clerkship. By pairing students with dedicated resident educators, the program aims to foster individualized learning, increase student engagement, and provide accessible mentorship regarding career development, residency training, and the practical role of radiology in clinical care. At the same time, residents gain experience as educators and receive anonymized feedback to help develop and improve their teaching skills. Each participating student will have a consistent point of contact they can readily turn to for guidance, support, and questions throughout the rotation.

The Radiology Interest Group (RIG) is a Stanford medical student specialty interest group dedicated to building a welcoming and supportive community for students interested in radiology. Our mission is to provide students with opportunities to explore the field. We host events open to all Stanford medical students, from faculty and resident meet-and-greets, interactive lectures and simulation labs, and residency match panels. We also aim to serve as a platform for mentorship, guidance on advanced electives, and research opportunities. All Stanford medical students with an interest in radiology are welcome to join the RIG mailing list for updates regarding upcoming events: https://mailman.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/stanford_rig
RIG Leadership
Yunji Seo
I’m a third-year medical student and co-chair of RIG. I was drawn to radiology for its integral role across medicine, and I’ve been amazed by its intricacies and close ties to pathophysiology in both making diagnoses and treating patients through image-guided procedures. I’ve been very grateful to find wonderful mentors and a supportive community within Stanford Radiology, and I’m excited to help build that community for other students through RIG!

Interactive Dinner Jeopardy Session
RIG hosted an interactive Jeopardy session led by Radiology Education Track residents, testing out knowledge of radiology concepts and imaging findings over dinner. The session sparked great energy from both teams, with the competition remaining close throughout. In the end, both teams finished with exactly the same number of points!
