Who We Are
Team Science in Action
Message from the Director
Welcome to the Quantitative Sciences Unit in the Section of Biostatistics within the Department of Medicine! We are a group of quantitative scientists eager to collaborate with other peer investigators on impactful science. With diverse expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical informatics, bio-informatics, data management and data wrangling, we address questions that impact human and public health through the practice of data science and through strong collaborative principles that ensure rigor and reproducibility.
Our values guide how we collaborate and are steeped in principles around diversity, inclusivity, and data equity.
We believe diversity is essential in team composition for the varied skillsets, and perspectives we bring to the table and to ensure equitable outcomes for all.
While our core academic home remains within the Section of Biostatistics, the influence and collaborative reach of the QSU have expanded to include numerous other departments within the School.
Our unique partnership model—with the Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Pediatrics, Pathology, and Emergency Medicine—has been instrumental in building novel data science infrastructure and a home for the scholarship of the practice of biostatistics and data science through the inclusion of quantitative faculty who lead research in team settings.
Our priorities are two-fold: advancing human and population health through the practice of data science and furthering the field of the practice of biostatistics and data science through rigorous scholarship. To that end, we focus on methods that facilitate the rigorous generation of evidence for new treatments, new standards of care, and new insights into disease and health.
Together, we have the opportunity to redefine what is possible in data science with a shared dedication to making a positive impact on human and public health.
