Airway Clearance Education
As part of our clinic, we have highly trained and experienced respiratory therapists who offer airway clearance teaching. Appointments with respiratory therapy are available by video from the comfort of home. Patients are expected to bring their airway clearance equipment or medications to the appointment. The therapist will review what the patient is currently doing, how to best optimize their clearance strategies, and recommendations for new or different maneuvers or equipment.
Rhinology
For patients who also suffer from chronic sinus disease, Stanford’s team of experts in bronchiectasis and sinus disease partner with our clinic, led by Dr. Zara Patel, offer state-of-the-art care including advanced endoscopic sinus surgery and treatment for those with chronic sinus infection or inflammation, sinus disease that has failed medical therapy and sinus disease that has failed prior surgery.
Nutritional Support
Our team of registered dieticians can create customized dietary plans to improve appetite, optimize caloric intake to reduce the risk of nutritional deficiencies and counteract undesirable weight loss. They have experience and expertise in caring for patients with advanced lung disease including bronchiectasis.
Mental Health
We partner with our pulmonary rehabilitation colleagues at El Camino Hospital. Their patient support group, which is affiliated with NTM Info and Research, provides a patient support group and space for patient connection. In addition, Stanford’s mental health providers include specialists with focused interest in the care needs of individuals with lung disease.
Thoracic Surgery
For some patients, surgical resection of their diseased airways can significantly reduce the burden of symptoms or infection. Resection of bronchiectasis is very challenging and requires a skilled surgeon with expertise in bronchiectasis. Our team of thoracic surgeons partner with us under the leadership of Dr. Natalie Lui and are highly skilled in the care of patients with bronchiectasis and NTM lung disease, using state-of-the-art surgical techniques for a successful resection.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
At our certified pulmonary rehabilitation program in Livermore, we help people with lung disease breathe easier. Our comprehensive six-week program includes customized exercises, education, support, and therapies to increase lung function and improve your quality of life. Our board-certified pulmonary disease specialists have experience with all breathing conditions, including bronchiectasis.
Gastroenterology
Gastroesophageal reflux disease, challenges with chewing and swallowing, and esophageal disease can complicate bronchiectasis and NTM lung disease. Stanford Esophageal Disease program partners with our clinic, led by Dr. Yan Jiang, to provide expert care for patients with refractory GERD, esophageal disease, dysmotility, inflammatory bowel disease and aspiration.
