Advancing Mentorship in Psychiatry (AMP) at Stanford

AMP is a structured sponsorship and mentorship initiative designed to meet the needs and experiences of trainees from all backgrounds. Our aim is to promote a collaborative model of mentorship that provides culturally-informed education, interactive training and social support jointly to mentors and mentees.

Objective

To intentionally nurture a culture of professional growth, community, psychological safety/wellness, interdisciplinary collaboration/innovation, and career resilience among psychiatry and behavioral sciences trainees and faculty through a structured, longitudinal mentorship program.

Overview

Our aim is to promote a collaborative model of mentorship that provides interdisciplinary, culturally-informed education, interactive training and social support jointly to mentors and mentees. We help faculty and trainees gain experience in cultural humility and prepare participants to address challenging professional situations and conversations. We welcome faculty, residents, fellows, and psychology trainees of all identities and lived experiences.

Goals

This program welcomes all faculty and trainees across the department, including psychiatry and psychology, as well as those focusing on clinical, academic, private-practice, and research, to foster:

  • Career development and academic resilience
  • Well-being and leadership capacity
  • Interpersonal connection and collaboration
  • Innovation in mentorship and education
  • Professional growth and career resilience

Structure

Program Components include:

  • Collaborative dyad-based longitudinal mentorship and sponsorship
  • Five interactive seminar sessions with expert guest speakers
    All virtual, all on 2nd Wednesdays of the month, 7-8pm

    • 02/11/2026
    • 03/11/2026
    • Followed by end-of-year mixer and community-building event: 05/13/2026
  • Facilitated group dialogue and skills-based training
  • End-of-year mixer and community-building event
