During September, we proudly feature women in our department for
Women in Medicine Month!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Share a memorable experience or accomplishment you are proud of in your career. How did it impact your journey?

As a medical student, I witnessed and participated in helping my attending help an individual with alcohol use issues agree to engage in treatment. It helped shape my understanding of how much I could do as a provider via talk therapy to help a person achieve treatment goals that otherwise seemed unfathomable.

What is a challenge you experienced in pursuing a career in medicine?

There are many challenges but the first is from within as to if I had the mental fortitude to put in the effort and hard work to pursue the career. Other challenges include finding a niche that is interesting and helps motivate my willingness to learn/grow.

What would you tell other women starting to pursue a career in medicine?

It is an amazing career and I would not have changed it for anything else.

Face your fears and the challenges will be eliminated.

If you think you can do, you will do it.

Gender doesn't define what you can do, you define what you can do.

What are some of the things that inspire you on a day-to-day basis?

Meeting new patients daily and learning about their stories. Seeing the advancements in psychiatry and all the niches that have arisen. There is an endless amount of learning and research that can be done. I look forward to the daily patient interactions and learning from each case.

What specific strategies do you use to maintain your own well-being?

I exercise daily, meditate once a day and try to keep a balance between work and pleasure.

I continue to pursue my hobbies avidly.

I enjoy going to work daily and look forward to the opportunities.
