Women in Medicine: Christina Khan, MD, PhD
During September, we proudly feature members of our department for Women in Medicine Month!
Why did you pursue a career in medicine?
I grew up watching my parents (a physician and a nurse) enjoy their work in the medical profession and the rewarding moments it brought them. Medicine was a wonderful way to combine my love for science and altruism.
What is your work focused on?
I am pediatric and adult psychiatrist, and my work focuses on addressing mental health disparities in vulnerable and marginalized populations in the United States and abroad. I have expertise in trauma, physician wellness, LGBTQ+ mental health, and community health.
What is the most fulfilling part of your work?
I most enjoy guiding young people to find their unique path and address stuck points in their relationships and in their lives. I am grateful every day to be in a profession where I can connect with wonderful people and empower them to address issues of equity and justice in their lives.
What advice would you give yourself when you started in the field, knowing what you know now?
Pursue what you are passionate about! It may take some time to figure out what this is, but in the end, it makes all the difference.
