Spotlight on Stanford Psychiatry at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
Members of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry gathered in Miami, Florida the week of November 6th for their annual meeting. The theme of this year’s meeting was Promoting Whole Health Through Innovative and Integrative Approaches to C-L Psychiatry, and focused on the role of C-L Psychiatry in evidence-based approaches ‎to whole health. Specifically, building on expertise to include integrative medicine advances the biopsychosocial model and to behavioral, spiritual, environmental, community, and population-based ‎approaches to patient care.
Congratulations to Dr. Jose Maldonado, Dr. Derek Pipolo, Dr. Shixie Jiang, Mr. Charles Cloughly, Dr. Matthew Gunther, Dr. Benjamin Hoover, and Dr. Yelizaveta Sher who received the Dlin/Fischer Clinical Research Award for the paper entitled “Assessing the Diagnostic Accuracy of the Stanford Proxy Test for Delirium (S-PTD) in a Critically Ill Population.” The Dlin/Fischer Clinical Research Award is presented for significant achievement in clinical research and the best paper submitted for presentation at the annual meeting. The team’s paper describes the results of a prospective, triple-blinded study conducted in the CV-ICU at Stanford evaluating the efficacy of two delirium screening tools: the CAM-ICU and the Stanford-Proxy Test for Delirium (S-PTD). The S-PTD exhibited a sensitivity of 94.52% (vs. 23.57% CAM-ICU), and an AUROC of 0.934 (when compared against a neuropsychiatric assessment based on DSM-5 criteria). These findings underscore the S-PTD's adaptability to varying levels of patient cooperation and its ability to comprehensively capture different delirium subtypes.
Congratulations to Dr. Sheila Lahijani and Dr. Jose Maldonado, who each received Visiting Professorship Awards this year. The Visiting Professorship Program at ACLP was established to promote the understanding and practice of consultation-liaison psychiatry and to increase interest in, and awareness of, consultation-liaison psychiatry. Dr. Sheila Lahijani, nominated by Dr. Veronika Hanko, will visit Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Jose Maldonado, nominated by Dr. Anna Dickerman, will visit New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine.
Congratulations to Dr. Avital Fischer and Dr. Julian Raffoul, who both received Trainee Travel Awards from ACLP for this year’s meeting.
Several faculty, staff, and trainees from our department attended and presented at the meeting this year! The faculty in the Division of Medical Psychiatry successfully developed and organized three pre-conference courses, which covered topics in transplant psychiatry, psycho-oncology, and critical care psychiatry.
