Bio
Dr. Vaughn is a board-certified, fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon with Stanford Health Care Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Vaughn specializes in treating hip, knee, and shoulder sports injuries. He offers procedures such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery and other ligament reconstructions, rotator cuff repair, and hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy. Dr. Vaughn is currently head team physician for the Stanford University men’s and women’s rugby team. Previously, he has been team physician for the Golden State Warriors (National Basketball Association), San Jose Earthquakes (Major League Soccer), and San Francisco 49ers (National Football League).
His research interests include hip joint motion (kinematics) as it relates to the prevention of hip arthritis. He has also studied alternate techniques for ACL revisions, such as using calcium phosphate bone cement. Dr. Vaughn was awarded a research grant from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) to study wrist motion in elite golfers.
Dr. Vaughn has published in many peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Sports Medicine, The Knee, and Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy. He has delivered dozens of podium presentations and lectures at Stanford Medicine and for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Northern California chapter of the Western Orthopaedic Association, and others. His presentations have covered a range of topics, including meniscus repair, cartilage restoration, and knee ligament injuries.
Dr. Vaughn is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, California Orthopaedic Association, and Western Orthopaedic Association.
