Research Interests
Prof. Helen Blau's research area is regenerative medicine with a focus on stem cells. Her research on nuclear reprogramming and demonstrating the plasticity of cell fate using cell fusion is well known and her laboratory has also pioneered the design of biomaterials to mimic the in vivo microenvironment and direct stem cell fate. Current findings are leading to more efficient iPS generation, cell based therapies by dedifferentiation a la newts, and discovery of novel molecules and therapies.

My current research interest is the intersection of psychiatry and neuroimmunology. I am currently collaborating with Stanford Neuroimmunology in a retrospective analysis of patient data to determine the relationship between psychaitric medications and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients with mutliple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis, and neuromyelitis optica.

Research Interests
The broad goal of my research interest is to identify intrinsic and extrinsic mediators of tumor growth and plasticity. My past research experiences will synergize with the expertise of Dr. Monte Winslow’s laboratory to allow the discovery of novel mechanisms of cancer progression. The integration of our molecular measurements with multiple types of ‘omics’ data will ultimately improve the diagnostic precision medicine.
