    Current Role at Stanford Senior Manager of Clinical Research:
    Direct submission of new grant applications. Involves partnering with Principal Investigator and key lab members to document background, rational and study design using appropriate format and mechanism for the funding agencies.

    Project Director - Alliance Sleep Questionnaire (ASQ):
    Oversee and manage creation, conversion to digital format and deployment of the Alliance Sleep Questionnaire (ASQ), an on-line questionnaire using complex branching logic.

    Partner with stakeholders to design questionnaire content including documentation of deliverables and establishment of milestones and timelines.

    Design and conduct pilot study for paper version of the ASQ at Stanford, including data acquisition, analysis, interpretation of results and publication of abstracts.

    Manage digitization and deployment of ASQ, from creating a comprehensive data dictionary, developing validation mechanisms, beta testing, Epic integration, and incorporation of questionnaire into workflow at Stanford Sleep Clinic.

    Support ASQ database, responsible for monitoring data acquisition and integrity, performing and analyzing QA/QC metrics, building queries and performing data analysis.

    Work with supervisor to identify and execute related projects, such as creation of a dynamic Clinical Summary Report, an ASQ Outcomes Module and validation of the ASQ.


    Data Administrator
    Design and manage creation of complex database system for the Stanford Sleep Cohort. Involves providing technical expertise to create a data management system to link clinical and research data using a universal ID to improve data security and operational effectiveness.

    Provide statistical support using SAS for projects within area of responsibility.

    Assist with new grant applications. Involves partnering with Principal Investigator and key lab members to document background, rational and study design using appropriate format and mechanism for the funding agencies.

    Write and edit manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.


    Webmaster:
    Assemble and coordinate task-force to create and deploy new websites for the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine, Stanford Sleep Medicine Center, and Stanford Center for Narcolepsy. Includes formulation and articulation of project goals, milestones, timeline and strategy for content development as well as writing original content for the website.

    Jieun Lee

    Basic Life Sci Reseach Associate, Orthopaedic Surgery

    Bio Jieun Lee, PhD is a research associate in the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Lee earned her PhD degree at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. In her most significant scientific accomplishments as a PhD student, she elucidated the therapeutic potential of pancreatic progenitor cells, demonstrating how GLP-1-expressing adult pancreatic precursor cells reverse diabetes in STZ-induced diabetic rats (Lee et al., Stem Cells and Development 2009).

    Dr. Lee continued stem cell research as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University where she lead a project generating safe and efficient human inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from somatic cells (Yang et al., Protein Expression Purification, 2011 and Yang et al., Biotechnology Bioengineering, 2009) in John Cooke?s lab in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. In her most significant scientific accomplishments as a postdoc, firstly, she found the activation of innate immunity via Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) is required for nuclear reprogramming (Lee et al., Cell 2012). It was the first discovery to provide insight on the role of inflammatory mechanism in reprogramming, which has subsequently applied this mechanism to convert human fibroblasts into functional endothelial cells by activating TLR3 (Sayed et al., Circulation 2014).

    Currently in Nidhi Bhutani's lab in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford, Dr. Lee has developed an efficient and well-defined chondrogenic differentiation protocol from human iPSCs to generate cartilage tissue in perspective of clinical application for Osteoarthritis (OA) patients and focal cartilage defects (Lee et al., The FASEB J 2015).

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Dr. Lee is a medical anthropologist whose research focuses on the sociocultural dimensions and ethical issues of emerging technologies and their translation into clinical practice. Dr. Lee leads studies on the public understandings of research using clinical data and biological samples, concepts of race, culture and human genetic variation, and citizen science, commercialization of biotechnology and entrepreneurship.
