CONDENSED BIO- The oldest of three children of immigrants from Taiwan, Camilla M Kao was born in Midland, Michigan, and spent the latter years of her youth in Lake Jackson, Texas. Both towns were sites of the Dow Chemical Company, where her father worked for his entire career before retiring. Cammy and her brothers followed their father's footsteps by studying chemical engineering sequentially in college, the three of them at Rice University. Cammy diverged from the pattern of her family by studying biological topics for her doctoral and postdoctoral research, with Chaitan Khosla (1992 to 1997) and Patrick O. Brown (1997 to 2000), respectively, at Stanford. In her current capacity as Senior Faculty Administrator in the Department of Biochemistry, Cammy assists the faculty of biochemistry in manifold roles that take advantage of her familiarity with scientific knowledge and of the notion of mathematics, rather than arbitrariness, governing human intuition.
TEMPLATE FOR A MISSION STATEMENT- On December 16 , 2020 , Camilla M Kao composed a template , in a Stanford email , for a mission statement that became the basis of the following adaptation composed on January 5 , 2021 [ REFERENCE :? https://cammystates-with-fury.site/an-american-university ] : ?-
" [ An American University is ] committed to educating scientists who comprehend the determinants of the scientific enterprise in order to better ' effect ' outcomes , these scientists whose origin and base we seek to be worldwide .
" A professional in science who comprehends the determinants of the scientific enterprise , particularly that decisions by institutional leaders depend upon the concept of mechanism , can be someone who changes the goals of academia to new goals such as Climate Change . A scientist early in her career or at a later stage could also decide to dedicate her limited resources as a professional to a non-conventional capacity .
" An American University seeks fairness by reducing disparity that has long persisted in the scientific enterprise . "
