    Current Research and Scholarly Interests We launched a national precision medicine PAD trial called, VascTrac (http://vasctrac.stanford.edu/). This trial is mobile phone based and leverages Apple's ResearchKit Platform to monitor a patient's activity both pre- and post-intervention. We are validating mobile phone surveillance for PAD patients and are currently enrolling.

    Bio Shipra Arya, MD SM FACS is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Stanford University School of Medicine and section chief of vascular surgery at VA Palo Alto Healthcare System. She has a Master?s degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health with focus on research methodology and cardiovascular epidemiology. She completed her General Surgery Residency at Creighton University Medical Center followed by a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at University of Michigan. She recently completed an American Heart Association (AHA) grant on risk prediction of cardiovascular outcomes and limb loss in Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) patients. She is currently funded by the NIH/NIA GEMSSTAR grant studying the impact of frailty on quality of surgical care in PAD and aortic aneurysm patients. The accumulated evidence from her research all points to the fact that frailty is a versatile tool that can be utilized to guide surgical decision making, inform patient consent and design quality improvement initiatives at the patient and hospital level. The field of frailty research in surgical population is still relatively nascent and her current work focuses on streamlining frailty evaluation, and implementation of patient and system level interventions to improve surgical outcomes and enhance patient centered care.

    Bio Dr. Avise is a board certified general surgeon and vascular surgeon specializing in cutting edge treatments of vascular disease. She completed her training at Emory University (MD, general surgery residency) and Wake Forest School of Medicine (2 year vascular surgery research fellowship) and joined the faculty of Stanford University Division of Vascular Surgery in 2016 as an Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery. She is establishing a practice at Stanford Healthcare - Valleycare Hospital in Pleasanton and Outpatient Surgery Center in Emeryville to extend the Stanford quality and innovation in vascular surgery to the East Bay communities.

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Our research laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanics of the cardiovascular system, especially with respect to interactions between medical devices and the dynamic cardiovascular environment. We use medical imaging, 3D geometric modeling, and custom deformation quantification techniques to investigate disease processes and medical device performance. We are interested in the dynamics of the heart, aorta, and peripheral vasculature, and are always seeking ways to apply our research to current and emerging therapies. While our research pursuits seek to add to the fundamental understanding of cardiovascular biomechanics, all of our projects are directly related to improving medical device design, evaluation, regulation, and their use in clinical practice.

    Bio Dr. Fukaya practices Vascular Medicine at the Stanford Vascular Clinics and Advanced Wound Care Center. She received her medical education in Tokyo and completed her medical training both in the US and Japan. She joined Stanford in 2015.

    Vascular Medicine covers a wide range of vascular disorders including chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, post thrombotic syndrome, peripheral artery disease, carotid artery disease, cardiovascular risk evaluation, fibromuscular dysplasia, rare vascular disease, lymphedema, arterial/venous/diabetic ulcers, and wound care.

    Dr. Fukaya has a special interest in venous disease and started the Stanford Vascular and Vein Clinic in 2016.

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests I am interested in thrombosis and the role of thrombin and its receptor in venous wall remodeling following venous thrombosis. I am also interested in vascular hemodynamics and the use of ultrasound, MRI and computational modeling in evaluating arterial flow in exercise conditions.

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Dr. Lee is the Principal Investigator on several clinical trials examining therapeutic strategies for management of complex aortic aneurysm disease as well as aortic dissection.

    Fenestrated and Branch Repair of the thoracic, thoracoabdominal, and abdominal aneurysms
    •Carotid stenting

    Bio Dr. Mikkineni is a vascular surgeon who specializes in vascular disease including critical limb ischemia and limb salvage, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms. Specific areas of interest include: endovascular procedures for peripheral vascular disease, management of carotid disease, thoracic outlet syndrome, mesenteric ischemia.

    Additional areas of interest encompass hemodialysis access and venous disorders such as varicose veins. His special interest include fenestrated and branched endografts in management of aortic and thoracic aneurysms, and aortic disease.

    Dr. Mikkineni?s research topics include abdominal aortic aneurysm and vascular conduits for bypass. He has published on the surgical treatment of aortic aneurysms and the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

    Bio I am interesting in identifying the heritable component of a wide range of cardiovascular diseases which include coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease. To this end, I am involved in utilizing genome-wide genetic and bioinformatics approaches to identify loci responsible for disease, and thereafter validating these findings by implementing a variety of molecular genetics, molecular biology and transgenic mouse models to explain the vascular biology of the identified gene or pathway.

    Bio Dr. Ross is a vascular surgeon and research scientist. She graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine in 2011 and completed her vascular surgery 0+5 residency at Stanford University School of Medicine in 2018. During her residency, she completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in biomedical informatics. Her current research focuses on using machine learning and electronic health records for early disease identification, precision medicine, and evaluating opportunities to engage in patient education beyond the clinic.
