?My goal is to improve patient quality of life and restore functionality, through an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. I am also committed to enhancing outcomes and patient safety as it applies to the field of perioperative and pain medicine.?
Dr. Newmark is currently the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology of Alameda Health System (AHS) in the San Francisco East Bay. The three core hospitals of AHS includes Highland Hospital which provides ACS level-1 trauma care and Obstetrical care, as well as San Leandro Hospital and Alameda Hospital. Dr. Newmark is responsible for all anesthesia, perioperative, pain management and related care delivery within this safety-net health system, both as a frontline physician and operational lead for its ~50 clinicians and staff.
The focus of Dr. Newmark's career has been to address national health issues through community and health system leadership and medical education, particularly surrounding the topics of perioperative and surgical care quality, opioid safety, addiction related care, pandemic and mass casualty response planning, and addressing health equity and bias in health care delivery.
Dr. Newmark?s patient care and clinical interests include chronic and acute pain management, interdisciplinary / procedural pain treatment, team based approaches to patients with dual acute or chronic pain and substance use disorders, as well as anesthesia for trauma and spine surgery.
Dr. Newmark is currently an Adjunct Faculty member of the Stanford University Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine. He holds academic interests in immersive based learning, trainee performance, and patient outcomes and safety. He continues to develop pain medicine simulation scenarios and other educational programs within the Division of Pain Medicine, as well as treat patients while supervising pain medicine fellows.
