He has served as team physician for the San Francisco 49ers (1992-2008) and the San Jose Sharks (2005-2015).

    Bio Dr. David Oji is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the operative and non-operative treatment of all aspects of foot and ankle disorders. After finishing his orthopaedic surgery residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, he did his fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland under the leadership of Dr. Lew Schon, the former president of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. There he underwent advanced training in the forefront of foot and ankle surgery including total ankle replacements, use of stem cells to promote healing of acute and chronic conditions, non-fusion techniques of great toe arthritis, and complex ankle and foot reconstruction.

    During his training, he assisted in treating the Baltimore Orioles and amateur ballet dancers. Dr. Oji also took part in conducting advanced biomechanical and clinical research and has written chapters in textbooks with topics ranging from arthroscopic treatment of talar cartilage defects to the diabetic foot.

    After fellowship, he was in private practice working closely with the community as the team physicians for many of the local high school sports teams.

    In June of 2017, Dr. Oji joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor. In addition to his usual clinical and educational responsibilities, he is also one of the team physicians for Stanford University Athletic programs.

    Since starting at Stanford, he has been on the forefront of ankle and foot surgery. He has performed the first out patient total ankle replacement and the first total talar replacement at Stanford. He is an advocate of minimally invasive ankle and foot surgery performing one of the first MIS (minimally invasive surgery) bunion surgeries in the Bay Area. Whenever possible, the smallest incision and the least invasive approach will be done to allow the patient to heal faster including tendosopy, small joint arthroscopy, endoscopic Haglund's resection, minimally invasive osteotomy, and minimally invasive great toe cheilectomy.

    He has a special focus in the treatment of ankle and foot orthopaedic sports injuries such as chronic ankle instability, cartilage injuries, Achilles injuries, using surgery only as a last resort to return the patient to peak athletic form.

    In addition, he has extensive experience in complex ankle and foot reconstruction such as ankle replacements, flatfeet reconstruction, fusions of the foot and hindfoot, and Charcot foot/ankle reconstruction.

    Bio Dr. Rhee is a physiatrist and a clinical assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation. For patients with spine and musculoskeletal conditions, he focuses on providing exceptional care emphasizing minimally invasive solutions designed to optimize symptom managementand patient function.

    Building on his background in engineering and on his specialized medical training and experience, Dr. Rhee welcomes opportunities to combine medical, mechanical, and interpersonal approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of each patient. He offers a full range of treatment modalities, including epidural steroid injection procedures, sacroiliac and facet joint injections, trigger point and soft tissue injections, orthopedic joint injections, and more. He also provides medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablations, and performs electrodiagnostic studies.

    Among the wide range of conditions that Dr. Rhee treats are bursitis, herniated discs, radiculopathy, sciatica, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and spondylosis. He also has treated many forms of joint and muscle pain: facet joint, back, neck, hip, and sacroiliac joint pain.

    Dr. Rhee?s experience encompasses short-term and long-term care for both acute and chronic conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries, spinal problems, mixed spine-neck and spine-shoulder disorders, and peripheral damage. Many of the cases he treats are injury-related, while a significant number of others are associated with aging. Another portion of his patient population presents with conditions stemming from developmental anomalies.

    Prior to joining Stanford Health Care, Dr. Rhee was in private practice in the Bay Area. Previously, he also served in the US Army as a troop medical clinic officer-in-charge and as a brigade surgeon.

    Dr. Rhee is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, North American Spine Society, and Spine Intervention Society.

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Dr. Rose's research investigates early brain and motor development in preterm children and neuromuscular mechanisms underlying cerebral palsy (CP). Research examines neonatal microstructural brain development on DTI and physiological correlates of motor function in preterm children. Dr. Rose served on the NIH Taskforce on Childhood Motor Disorders, the AACPDM Research Committee and Steering Committee to develop CDE for CP neuroimaging diagnostics, and serves on the Board of Directors of SBMT.

    Bio Dr. Salyapongse is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon. He is the medical director of Interventional Services, medical director of Joint Replacement, and chief of Orthopaedics for Stanford Health Care?ValleyCare. He is also a clinical associate professor at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Salyapongse performs the full range of orthopaedic surgery procedures to treat injuries and conditions related to the hip and knee. He has extensive training and experience in the diagnosis and use of advanced treatment techniques for disorders of the hip and knee, including meniscus tears, arthritis, avascular necrosis, and post-traumatic injuries.

    Dr. Salyapongse does hundreds of knee and hip replacements annually. His goal with each patient is to help them recover quickly and safely, with durable, long-lasting joint replacements as a result. He specializes in tissuesparing techniques, including an anterior approach to hip replacement.

    Dr. Salyapongse is a certified instructor of anterior hip replacement. He has performed more than 2,000 procedures and traveled nationwide to teach it to other surgeons. Anterior hip replacement offers the potential for faster recovery, as it involves a small incision that presents less of a disruption to the muscles. Dr. Salyapongse also specializes in techniques such as Anterior PATH, or percutaneous assisted total hip replacements.

    For knee replacements, Dr. Salyapongse uses a variety of techniques, including robotic surgery. He also specializes in partial knee replacements for patients who may be experiencing arthritis in a localized area but who might not be ready for a full replacement. Partial replacements enable patients to have a faster recovery and a more natural feeling knee post-surgery.

    Dr. Salyapongse welcomes referrals from specialists as well as primary care physicians. He sees patients at every stage of their care journey, but especially when their situation has progressed beyond interim interventions like physical therapy or injections. He views each of his patients as an individual with a unique set of goals and tailors each treatment plan to fit their specific needs. While Dr. Salyapongse will help patients first explore the alternatives, he may recommend surgery once activities of daily living
    (like sleep, work, or gait pattern) have been impacted.

    In an effort to make outpatient care more accessible, Dr. Salyapongse has helped to pioneer the use of digital technology to prepare patients before, during, and after hip and knee surgery. His passion is to improve patient engagement and thus outcomes by letting patients know what they can expect at every stage of their care journey.

    Dr. Salyapongse has co-authored articles on a variety of topics related to techniques, technologies, and outcomes in joint replacement surgery. His work has appeared in the American Journal of Orthopaedics, Journal of Arthroplasty, Current Sports Medicine Reports, and other publications.

    He has made presentations on hip and knee replacement planning and surgery at meetings such as the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Western Orthopaedic Association.

    Dr. Salyapongse has won honors for his work, such as a Physician Champion Award for outstanding patient care. He is a member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

    Clinical Associate Professor, Surgery - Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

    Bio Subhro K. Sen, MD, Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in biomedical engineering. He went on to receive his medical degree from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. After medical school, he completed a yearlong peripheral nerve research fellowship under Dr. Susan Mackinnon at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his postgraduate training in general surgery at Indiana University, followed by plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins University. He finished his training with a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at Stanford University.

    Dr. Sen?s general clinical interests are in reconstructive surgery, microvascular surgery, and hand and upper extremity surgery. His practice includes: post-traumatic extremity reconstruction; post-oncologic reconstruction of the head and neck, trunk and extremities; perforator flap surgery; and melanoma surgery. He is medical director of the Advanced Wound Care Center at Stanford Health Care. As a hand surgeon in the Robert A. Chase Hand and Upper Limb Center, he has interests in hand trauma, degenerative conditions, peripheral nerve injuries, and complex upper extremity flap reconstruction.

    In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sen is involved in research, publication, and teaching. His peer-reviewed research includes studies on extremity reconstruction, peripheral nerve regeneration, and he has authored a number of book chapters on a variety of plastic and hand surgery topics. He has a strong interest in medical device innovation and is currently a faculty fellow in the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign.

    Dr. Sen is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery.

    Bio Kevin G. Shea, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon at Stanford University Medical Center and the Lucile Packard Children?s Hospital. Dr. Shea grew up in Montana and California, graduated from the UCLA School of Medicine, and completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine. His advanced training includes pediatric orthopaedics at Rady Children?s Hospital in San Diego, AO Fellowship in Bern Switzerland with Drs. Ganz (Hip), Dr. Diego Fernandez (Trauma), and Dr. Hans Staubli (sports), and Ilizarov Training in Lecco, Italy. He was the AOSSM Traveling Sports Medicine Fellow in 2008, and practiced in Boise, ID prior to joining the Stanford Faculty. Dr. Shea is a founding member of the PRiSM Society (Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine) and the ROCK (Research in OsteoChondritis of the Knee) Multi-center Study Group. He is a member of the AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons), POSNA (Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America) and the AOSSM (American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine). In addition, Dr. Shea has authored more than 170 scientific papers and book chapters.
