Bio

I graduated with a Ph.D from the laboratory of Prof. Eliahu Zlotkin at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where my research focused on Insect-selective neurotoxins expressing Baculoviruses. In December 2000 I joined the laboratory of Professor Jeffrey Glenn's at Stanford School of Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow. Here my research focused on HCV membrane association, specifically the association of NS5A and NS4B with host cell membranes and its role in HCV replication.
As a Senior Research Scientist at Professor Glenn's lab my interests focus around three major themes:
1. Broad spectrum antivirals targeting host functions
2. Viral genome RNA structures as antiviral targets
3. None Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) and its progression to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)

Our basic research program focuses on understanding the roles of virus-host interactions in viral infection and disease pathogenesis via molecular and systems virology single cell approaches. This program is combined with translational efforts to apply this knowledge for the development of broad-spectrum host-centered antiviral approaches to combat emerging viral infections, including dengue, coronaviruses, encephalitic alphaviruses, and Ebola, and means to predict progression to severe disease.

Research Interests
Our research focus is define correlates of protection against hepatitis C virus and other viral pathogens. Detailed characterization of broadly neutralizing human or nonhuman primate monoclonal antibodies against these agents will create high-resolution, functional maps of linear and nonlinear epitopes comprising the major binding sites of both isolate-specific and broadly neutralizing antibodies for rational vaccine design.

We conduct clinical trials and epidemiological, translational, and real-world studies of liver cancer, fatty liver (NASH, NAFLD), viral hepatitis B and C, liver cirrhosis, and liver transplant. We focus on risk identification for disease prevention and treatment for improvement of survival. We focus on sex, racial/ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities. We specialize in clinical trials, large international real-world consortium registry data, and large public/semi-public databases.

Research Interests
Dr. Nolan's group uses high throughput single cell analysis technology cellular biochemistry to study autoimmunity, cancer, virology (influenza & Ebola), as well as understanding normal immune system function. Using advanced flow cytometric techniques such as Mass Cytometry, MIBI (ion beam imaging), CODEX and computational biology approaches, we focus on understanding disease processes at the single cell level. We have a strong interest in cancer immunotherapy and pathogen-host interactions.

Research Interests
The laboratory develops and uses state of the art genomic methods to identify genetic factors affecting disease susceptibility, and to translate these findings into new treatments. We have developed a more efficient method for performing mouse genetic analysis, which has been used to analyze the genetic basis for 16 different biomedical traits. We are developing novel methods, and have developed a novel experimental platform that replaces mouse liver with functioning human liver tissue.

Suzanne Pfeffer

Research Interests
The major focus of our research is to understand the molecular basis of inherited Parkinson's Disease (PD). We focus on the LRRK2 kinase that is inappropriately activated in PD and how it phosphorylates Rab GTPases, blocking the formation of primary cilia in specific regions of the brain. The absence of primary cilia renders cells unable to carry out Hedgehog signaling that is critical for neuroprotective pathways that sustain dopamine neurons.
