Our group's interests are in improving patient safety, harnessing implementation science and medical simulation techniques for training, development, dissemination, implementation and study of these processes. We collaborate nationally and globally on implementation of emergency manuals (context relevant sets of cognitive aids or crisis checklists), for management of crises and freely share team training resources. My clinical focus is the treatment of anxiety disorders, including post traumatic stress disorder. My research focuses on developing effective psychotherapy interventions to reduce chronic stress as well as enhance positive health behaviors to reduce morbidity and mortality among patients coping with chronic, medical illnesses which are often life threatening.

Research Interests
Research focuses on developmental, cognitive and psychosocial factors involved in adolescents’ and young adults’ health-related decision-making, perceptions of risk and vulnerability, health communication and risk behavior. My research has focused on understanding and reducing health risk behaviors such as tobacco use, alcohol and marijuana use, risky driving, and risky sexual behavior.

Research Interests
Dr. Hart-Cooper's research focuses on youth provider barriers and education surrounding pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP). He founded the Virtual PrEP Program for Adolescents and Young Adults at Stanford to improve access to PrEP care for youth within California. In his current role, he advises health departments and health systems in creating youth-focused telehealth tools to improve youth access to PrEP.

We use innovations from implementation science to improve public access to effective treatments for all health problems and especially behavioral health problems, including addiction and mental health disorders. Our credo is NO HEALTH WITHOUT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH. Our goal is to enhance a person's chances for the best outcomes possible, including a lifetime of recovery. We embrace our leadership role to advance the science of implementation and mentor the next generation of researchers.
