Timothy Angelotti MD, PhD
Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine (Adult MSD)
Clinical Focus
Critical Care, Anesthesia
Research Interests
My research efforts are focused on investigating the pharmacological and physiological interface of the autonomic nervous system with effector organs. Utilizing molecular, cellular, and electrophysiological techniques, we are examining alpha2 adrenergic receptor function in cultured sympathetic neurons. Future research aims will be directed toward understanding neurotransmitter release in general.

Vice Dean of the School of Medicine and Stanley McCormick Memorial Professor
Clinical Focus
Cancer > Hematology, Hematology, Multiple Myeloma, Multiple Myeloma - Medical Oncology, Plasmacytoma, Plasmacytoma - Hematology, Plasmacytoma - Medical Oncology
Research Interests
Regulation of expression of oncogenes in normal and malignant hematologic cells.

Douglas L. Brutlag
Professor of Biochemistry, Emeritus
Research Interests
My primary interest is to understand the flow of information from the genome to the phenotype of an organism. This interest includes predicting the structure and function of genes and proteins from their primary sequence, predicting function from structure simulating protein folding and ligand docking, and predicitng disease from genome variations. These goals are the same as the goals of molecular biology, however, we use primarily computational approaches.

Chris Cartwright, MD
Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology), Emerita
Research Interests
Molecular mechanisms of intestinal cell growth control; function and regulation of the Src family of tyrosine kinases in normal cells, and their deregulation in cancer cells.

Stanley N. Cohen, MD
Kwoh-Ting Li Professor in the School of Medicine, Professor of Genetics and of Medicine
Research Interests
We study mechanisms that affect the expression and decay of normal and abnormal mRNAs, and also RNA-related mechanisms that regulate microbial antibiotic resistance. A small bioinformatics team within our lab has developed knowledge based systems to aid in investigations of genes.

James Ferrell
Professor of Chemical and Systems Biology and of Biochemistry
Research Interests
My lab has two main goals: to understand the regulation of mitosis and to understand the systems-level logic of simple signaling circuits. We often make use of Xenopus laevis oocytes, eggs, and cell-free extracts for both sorts of study. We also carry out single-cell fluorescence imaging studies on mammalian cell lines. Our experimental work is complemented by computational and theoretical studies aimed at understanding the design principles and recurring themes of regulatory circuits.

Chris Garcia
Younger Family Professor and Professor of Structural Biology
Research Interests
Structural and functional studies of transmembrane receptor interactions with their ligands in systems relevant to human health and disease - primarily in immunity, infection, and neurobiology. We study these problems using protein engineering, structural, biochemical, and combinatorial biology approaches.

Ted Jardetzky
Professor of Structural Biology
Research Interests
The Jardetzky laboratory is studying the structures and mechanisms of macromolecular complexes important in viral pathogenesis, allergic hypersensitivities and the regulation of cellular growth and differentiation, with an interest in uncovering novel conceptual approaches to intervening in disease processes. Ongoing research projects include studies of paramyxovirus and herpesvirus entry mechanisms, IgE-receptor structure and function and TGF-beta ligand signaling pathways.
