Bio

I am a passionate scientist with expertise in basic and translational research related to ageing, cancer, genomic instability, DNA damage response (HDR & NHEJ), genome editing (CRISPR), regenerative medicine (iPSCs), cellular identity (reprogramming), and proteomics (interactions, biomarkers, target identification). My extensive experience is reflected by 10 peer reviewed publications. I possess excellent communication and technical writing skills (English/German), as evidenced by collaborations with world renowned institutions and >$460,000 won from scholarships, grants & awards. Recent highlights: Postdoctoral Young Investigator Award from Stanford University for scientific merit, commitment & leadership; “Played a big part” in securing a CRISPR-based $5.1Mio grant for regenerative medicine at Stanford University; Poster prize (out of 77 entries) at the Department of Pathology, Stanford University 2019 research day.

Research Interests
What distinguishes us humans from other animals is our ability to undergo complex behavior. The synapses are the structural connection between neurons that mediates the communication between neurons, which underlies our various cognitive function. My research program aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie synapse function during behavior in the developing and mature brain, and how synapse function is altered during mental retardation.

After shuttering the wet lab, we have focused on: a point-of-care device to measure blood ammonia and prevent brain damage; a human protein complex that juxtaposes and joins DNA ends for repair and V(D)J recombination; and strategies for teaching students and for reducing selection bias in educational programs.

Research Interests
Genomic instability contributes to many diseases, but it also underlies many natural processes. The Cimprich lab is focused on understanding how mammalian cells maintain genomic stability in the context of DNA replication stress and DNA damage. We are interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying the cellular response to replication stress and DNA damage as well as the links between DNA damage and replication stress to human disease.

Research Interests
We study the molecular mechanisms by which chromatin-signaling networks effect nuclear and epigenetic programs, and how dysregulation of these pathways leads to disease. Our work centers on the biology of lysine methylation, a principal chromatin-regulatory mechanism that directs epigenetic processes. We study how lysine methylation events are generated, sensed, and transduced, and how these chemical marks integrate with other nuclear signaling systems to govern diverse cellular functions.
