Onn Brandman
Associate Professor of Biochemistry and, by courtesy, of Chemical and Systems Biology
Research Interests
The Brandman Lab studies how cells sense and respond to stress. We employ an integrated set of techniques including single cell analysis, mathematical modeling, genomics, structural studies, and in vitro assays.

Alex Gao
Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and of Microbiology and Immunology
Research Interests
We integrate computational genome mining with high-throughput experimental approaches and structural biology to harness the rich diversity of genes from microbes, with the goal of developing new antibiotic strategies and molecular biotechnology. A major area of current interest is uncovering novel molecular functions involved in anti-phage defense and bacteria–phage interactions, which are a major driver of molecular innovation in nature.

Ruth Huttenhain
Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology
Research Interests
My group deciphers how G protein-coupled receptors decode extracellular cues into dynamic and context-specific cellular signaling networks to elicit diverse physiologic responses. We exploit quantitative proteomics to capture the spatiotemporal organization of signaling networks combined with functional genomics to study their impact on physiology.

Ron Kopito
Professor of Biology
Research Interests
Our laboratory use state-of-the-art cell biological, genetic and systems-level approaches to understand how proteins are correctly synthesized, folded and assembled in the mammalian secretory pathway, how errors in this process are detected and how abnormal proteins are destroyed by the ubiquitin-proteasome system.

Richard Lewis
Professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Emeritus
Research Interests
We study molecular mechanisms of calcium signaling with a focus on store-operated CRAC channels and their essential roles in T cell development and function. Currently we aim to define the molecular mechanism for CRAC channel activation and the means by which calcium signal dynamics mediate specific activation of transcription factors and T-cell genes during development.
